Re-Envisioning All We See, Feb 15, 2015, 10:30am
Sunday morning worship service at First Baptist Church of White Plains

This Sunday is called “Transfiguration Sunday” in the church calendar, telling the story of Jesus’ amazing and illuminating transformation in the presence of a few of his disciples and legends of old – Moses and Elijah. What are the ways God gives us a glimpse of God’s self today? The text reminds us that God’s self-disclosures do not merely tweak who we are, what we think, and what we are called to do. In fact, they change everything. God is in the habit of transforming us not by extending a version of enlightenment we can welcome unflinchingly, with open arms, but by confounding our most well-developed formulas for understanding what God is up to and what we have to do with it. The Word is made flesh, and lives with us, and dies for us: our understandings of who God is and how God is supposed to behave are forever overturned! How are we to respond to this re-envisioning of all we see?
