Release: Bronxville School Post-Flood Update

From the Bronxville School:

On the second day after the flood we conducted an comprehensive inspection of the first floor with our industrial hygienist, disaster recovery firm, insurance adjusters and consultants. In general we confirmed that the various water resistant finishes we used in 2007 have held up (walls,floors, cabinets), but instructional materials below the water line (texts, workbooks, curriculum documents) will need to be removed and discarded.

We are taking steps to ensure the rapid removal of remaining surface moisture and all absorbent materials, such as rugs. Some instructional equipment, after drying and cleaning, may be salvageable after assessment.

Other indicators of progress are:

• The large gym flooring, warped beyond use, is being removed. 
  Dehumidification equipment is in place.
• Wet paper goods and other materials absorbing moisture have been bagged and will be removed.
• We have determined that our fields will be available for school use following cleaning, sanitizing, and grooming.
• We have obtained permission from the Village to remove and clean the School with double shifts of labor, but we have taken steps to alleviate any impact (visual or noise) on neighbors.
• We are conducting a second inspection Wednesday with respect to detecting moisture, any residual electrical problems, or other environmental health issues.
• Based on an assessment of progress on Thursday, we will prepare a timeline and implementation plan for the Board of Education to consider.
