Updated: Road Closures; Boil Advisory Still In Effect in Yonkers

Update as of Tuesday, 4:30 p.m.

• A boil water advisory issued Monday by the Westchester County Department of Health for southwest Yonkers will remain in effect at least through Thursday, Aug. 30.
• One lane of the Southbound Saw Mill Parkway may re-open by Wednesday morning.
• Cross County Parkway Westbound remains shut down indefinitely.

As of 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, crews are still working to repair a broken water main along the Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers, south of Rumsey Rd. after it was accidently cut yesterday by a contractor working in the area.

Motorist are still advised to avoid the area as traffic has been heavy on the Cross County Parkway West, where drivers are being detoured onto Central Ave. Southbound.

Also, the Saw Mill River Parkway remains shut down southbound past Rumsey Rd. to McLean Ave in Yonkers.

About 50,000 residents have been effected by the water restrictions, in some cases having no water at all and for others that do have running water, the City of Yonkers is advising residents and businesses in the area south of Ashburton Avenue to the New York City line between the Hudson River and the Saw Mill River Parkway to boil their water before drinking it or using it to prepare food, as a precaution.

City officials have not released any more information as of yet indicating when the boil advisory will be lifted, or when the roadways will reopen to thru traffic.
