Shoes ‘N’ More Opens in Bronxville

The shoe store, which has locations throughout NY and Connecticut, sets up shop on Pondfield Road.

Local shoe lovers who were disappointed with the recent shuttering of Plaza Too on Pondfield Road, won't have to go very far for their next fix.

As of May 1, Shoes 'N' More, a local shoe store chain, has opened its doors in the space where Plaza Too used to be, making it the 7th location throughout NY and Connecticut.

"We saw the void once Plaza Too left. Customers were saying they didn't know what they were going to do without a shoe store there," says Ann Spallone, director of stores for Shoes 'N' More.

Currently, the store offers women's and children's shoes, says Nikki Sgarlata, the manager of the store, who had also been the manager at Plaza Too, and they're hoping to get some men's items in as well.

Selling moderately priced merchandise, customers will find women's shoes from designers such as Eliza B., Michael Kors, Steve Madden, Bernardo and Jack Rogers. Accessories including handbags and jewelry and low-key clothing like beach cover-ups and peasant tops, help round out the collection.

"In our store you can pick up a pair of Havaianas for $18 to a pair of Cole Hann or Butter," says Spallone, "We have the range."

For kids, there are brands including Lelli Kelly, Geox and Nike. And to keep their attention while they—or you—try on? A flat-screen TV that plays kid-friendly movies like The Little Mermaid.

"We are a family shoe store," says Spallone, "So once the kids feel comfortable, moms feel really comfortable. "

And the business itself is family-owned. In 1997, owner Liz Elliott opened her first shop in Greenwich. Her mother, Maralyn, who owned Shoe Palace, which had locations in Yonkers, Harlem and the Bronx, had been in the business for years.

"Liz was a BU graduate and was headed more towards the law business but decided to follow in her mom's footsteps," says Spallone.

The store now has locations in Greenwich, New Canaan, Westport, Ridgefield,  Rye, New York City and Bronxville, and Spallone says they recently took over the space that Plaza Too had in Rye, as well.

"We are thrilled to welcome Nikki and her team from Shoes 'N' More to Bronxville. The Greenwich-based retailer will fill a hole left by the closing of both The Plaza Bootery and Plaza Too, by offering both ladies and children's shoes. It is a perfect mix for our town," says Ruth Wood, executive director of the Bronxville Chamber of Commerce, "The business district is really turning around and we are so pleased that tenants have been found for so many of the vacant properties."

What's in store for Shoes 'N' More in the coming months?

"For the fall we're going to have a lot more. We came mid-season." says Sgarlata, "But a lot of the spring stuff is already selling out."
