Tuckahoe Police Blotter May 17 – 23: Missing Jackhammer, Broken Car Windows and Possible Sweepstakes Scam

A rundown of some of the incidents investigated by the Tuckahoe Police Department during the week of May 17 - May 23. 

 

May 18:

8:20 a.m. The owner of a red Honda reported that his car, which was parked in the lot opposite 100 Columbus Ave., had been damaged. Officers found both passenger side windows had been broken and the right side tire was flat. The incident happened between 10 pm on May 17 and 8 a.m. on May 18.

7:38 p.m. A black, silver and red bicycle was brought into police headquarters after having been found near on the sidewalk near the Crestwood train station. It has not been claimed yet.

May 19:

11:04 a.m. A woman called police to report a possible phone scam. Her mother had gotten a call from a man telling her she won a Mercedes and $2.5 million through a sweepstakes from Publisher's Clearing House. He told the mother he needed to process the win on her credit card, police said.

The daughter called the man back, after hearing of the incident, but he hung up on her. She then called Publisher's Clearing House, who told them they never let winners know over the phone and that it was most likely a scam, police said. She was advised to report the matter to police.

4:59 p.m. At the completion of a construction project at 21 Fairview Ave., a man from the company doing the work found that his jackhammer was missing from the site and reported it to police.

May 20:

6:16 p.m. A lost Medico Key was turned in to police. It was found in front of the Curves at 16 Columbus Ave.

May 23:

6:55 a.m. The owner of a blue Jeep called police to report that his car, which was parked on Van Duzen Place, had been damaged. Police investigated and found the back windshield had been broken by a small rock, which they discovered in the car. Nothing was missing from the vehicle, police said.

9:42 p.m. A man called to report that while walking on Dante Ave., his father lost his wallet, which contained about $200 in cash, along with credit cards and a driver's license.
