Update on Yonkers Ave. Project in Tuckahoe
After further investigation, Hirani contractors have an update on the progress of the Streambank Protection Project along Yonkers Ave. in Tuckahoe.

Â
After months and months of patience on the part of village residents, they soon may be getting a major thoroughfare back for entering and exiting the village of Tuckahoe.
In a statement released by Project Manager Karen Ashton, Hirani Contracting reports that the subsurface of the roadway seems intact, after multiple investigations to determine the stability of the roadway in regard to the Streambank Protection Project.

With the investigation wrapping up on Monday July, 30, a time table of 6-8 weeks has been put in place to complete and finalize all neccesary work on the long-term erosion project of the streambank.
This means that Village officials may be able to open up one lane of traffic on Yonkers Ave. as early as the end of September, but even that date is tentative.

The following statement was issued by Karen Ashton, Project Manager:
Hirani, the construction contractor, started their subsurface investigation on July 18, 2012
Hirani is providing daily a copy of:
- Quality Control reports
- Geologist’s/geotechnical engineer’s boring logs.Â
Review of these documents (including multiple daily verbal/visual reports) provides the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) assurance that the investigation that is being conducted in the field is acceptable to produce acceptable results of the current subsurface condition.Â
This also allows the ACOE to make up to the minute decisions as to the stability of the subsurface – which is critical to the safety of the project site as well as the structural integrity of the end product.Â
To date, preliminary results do not indicate that the subsurface has been negatively impacted except in the immediate areas where the casings were driven into the ground.Â
Based on the data provided to date, additional borings were requested and the subsurface investigation should be completed by Monday, July 30, 2012.Â
Concurrent to the additional borings that are being drilled, the results of the subsurface investigation are currently being evaluated and corrective action plan/revised pipe pile installation plan is being prepared.Â

Once the corrective action has been completed and the revised work plan is acceptable to the ACOE, the “Stop Work Order” will be satisfied.Â
At such point, construction may resume with approximately 6-8 weeks of additional construction on this project which is designed to provide long term erosion protection of the streambank which helps stabilize Yonkers Avenue.
