The Purchase College Camerata, directed by harpsichordist and Purchase College, SUNY Conservatory of Music faculty member Bradley Brookshire, presents the complete Vivaldi Seasons in a lunchtime concert at the Neuberger Museum of Art on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 12:30 pm. Four young virtuoso violinists from the Purchase College Conservatory of Music – Gustavo Briceno, Emily Frederick, Lauren Jenkins, and Sarah Tusch – will be the featured soloists. An orchestra of strings, harpsichords, and guitars – a grouping typical of 18th-century Venice – will accompany the soloists. The program is free with museum admission.

Founded in 1997, the Purchase College Camerata specializes in music of the baroque era performed on modern orchestral instruments. Brookshire, known for his vivacious and colorful musicianship, is seen frequently as a harpsichordist in Metropolitan Opera productions and with Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Trinity Wall Street Baroque Orchestra, and other major musical ensembles.

The Four Seasons (Il quattro stagione, 1725) are a group of four stunning violin concertos that depict events in four sonnets – reproduced in the concert’s program materials – that Vivaldi himself may have written. Brookshire will begin the concert with a very brief tour of the clever effects with which Vivaldi brings the seasonal events in the sonnets to life.
