Westchester Dems Increase Majority In Legislature

One Republican seat was up for grabs and another appears to have been flipped to Democratic column.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Out of 17 races for Westchester County legislators six were contested Tuesday. There are currently 13 Democrats and four Republican or Conservative legislators.

According to the unofficial results, the Democrats appear to have increased their majority by two.

Democrat Colin Smith won District 1, which is comprised of Cortlandt, Peekskill and Yorktown, over Republican Frank Catalina. The seat was up for grabs when Republican John Testa, the minority leader, chose not to run for another term.

And Democrat Ruth Walter appears to have flipped District 15, which is made up of Bronxville and Yonkers. She unseated incumbent Republican Gordon Burrows.
