14th Annual Westchester Walk to Defeat ALS, Sunday June 26 @ Manhattanville College in Purchase. Join us for fun for a great cause!

The 14th Annual Westchester Walk to Defeat ALS will take place Sunday, June 26 at 10 am at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. The walk is FREE and open to all who would like to participate.

More than just a few-mile trek, the Walk to Defeat ALS® is an opportunity to bring hope to people living with ALS, to raise money for a cure, and to come together for something we all care about. The Walk to Defeat ALS® is The ALS Association’s biggest annual event, which raises funds that allow their local chapters to sustain care services and support research for much of the next year.

There will be entertainment, plenty of refreshments to fortify the walkers including bagels, coffee, fruit, soda, snacks and water, and a tradition started several years ago, grilled hot dogs following the walk! And the walk is dog friendly so be sure to bring your furry friend!

Also known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), is a devastating and always fatal neuromuscular disease that causes progressive paralysis of the muscles. ALS patients lose the ability to move, speak, and swallow and eventually to breathe. In the later stages, patients are totally paralyzed. Throughout this deterioration, the mind often remains unaffected and alert. Most patients live only 2 to 5 years following diagnosis and every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with ALS. Roughly, 5,600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each year – 15 new cases per day.
