Hello again, hello! I'm back with your new edition of the Brooklyn Patch newsletter, fresh off the presses. Let's get this Friday started off right with a quick review of the most important things happening in town, including updates on...

  • ADL opens a new outpost in the "epicenter" of antisemitic assaults.
  • Brooklyn elementary school welcomes NY's newest Supreme Court Justice.

But first, today's weather: 🌤 A passing afternoon shower. High: 56 Low: 53.

🗞 Top stories today in Brooklyn:

1. The Anti-Defamation League just set up a new outpost in Brooklyn, now the 'epicenter' of nationwide antisemitic attacks. Brooklyn in currently home to 600,000 Jews, which makes up nearly a quarter of the borough's total population. Earlier this year, the ADL released a report that named Brooklyn the "epicenter of assaults" against Jewish people across the United States — in response, the group will be opening a new office in the borough at the end of the month. The announcement comes just days after the ADL patterned with another NYC Jewish security organization to form an umbrella group called the Jewish Security Alliance. 2. One of Brooklyn's newest food halls is closing after just five months. Williamsburg Market opened just last fall — a communal eatery destination serving food from a dozen vendors. Greenpointers first reported that a sign posted outside announced that the market is under court supervision in an alternative form of bankruptcy proceedings. Vendors were alerted with virtually "zero notice" on Monday evening — doors were locked the following morning. (Eater NY)

3. The newest Supreme Court Justice was just sworn in at a Brooklyn elementary school. Hon. Susan Quirk has been a lifelong resident of Staten Island, and earlier this month was sworn in as a New York State Supreme Court Justice at Felisa Rincon DeGautier (PS 376) elementary school in Bushwick. Quirk used her induction speech as a chance to spotlight the importance of Women's History Month and thanked her family of public servants for setting an example, and her mother for giving her the courage to stand up for what's right. 4. MTA Token Booth staffers have finally been set free from their cages 20 years after subway tokens became obsolete. Yesterday, nearly 2,300 MTA workers began a new role; instead of sitting in the walled-off 'token booths' at subway stations, they'll now walk around to assist customers navigate NYC's bustling underground transit system. According to an MTA spokesperson, booths will still be available in stations "for communications and to sit from time to time." (Subscription / The New York Times)
