Alastasia​ Bryan, Rookie NYC Corrections Officer, Fatally Shot in South Brooklyn

SOUTH BROOKLYN, NY — A young off-duty corrections officers was fatally shot while she was sitting in a car in South Brooklyn Sunday night.

According to the NYPD, officers responded to a 911 call of a female shot in the vicinity of East 73 Street and Avenue L. When officers arrived on scene, they found 25-year-old Alastasia Bryan with a gunshot wound to the head and torso.

She was pronounced deceased on the scene. No arrests have been made in connection to the fatal shooting.

"Tonight our correction family and the entire City of New York is shocked and grieving the horrific murder of one of the youngest members of New York City's Boldest, who was shot and killed by an unknown assailant while sitting in her car in Brooklyn," the Correction Officers' Benevolent Association said in a statement.

"There are no words that can express the depth of this tragedy. The COBA will do everything we can to support the officer's family during this time and we will not rest until the assailant or assailants are brought to justice."

According to a report in ABC NY, after reviewing surveillance footage, police say it appears someone was waiting nearby, and when Bryan got into her car, the driver rolled up and the shots were fired. She had recently graduated city Correction Academy.

Mayor Bill de Blasio offered condolences to Bryan's family and to the Department of Corrections.

“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I want to extend my deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Alastasia Bryan – a rising member of New York City’s Department of Correction who was senselessly murdered yesterday in Brooklyn," de Blasio said in a statment. "The NYPD is working aggressively to find the person responsible for this heinous act and will maintain its pursuit until they are brought to justice.”
