Brooklyn Sees Record Lows In Summer Gun Violence
Gun violence homicides decreased, but non-shooting homicides increased in Brooklyn.
BROOKLYN, NY — Today, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said that gun violence in Brooklyn between June and August reached the lowest levels ever recorded.
There have been 13 shooting homicides this summer, which is 24 percent fewer than last year during the same time.
In Brooklyn, there have also been 84 shooting incidents this summer, which is 11 percent fewer than last summer, the lowest it has ever been since the statistic was tracked.

Both of these statistics also represent a more than 70 percent drop off from the rate of gun violence in the summer of 2020, which saw historic highs.
Despite this good news, there is still much more to be done, Gonzalez said. There were 16 non-shooting homicides this summer, which is three more than last year.

"While more needs to be done, public safety in Brooklyn continues to improve and our multi-pronged approach in fighting gun crimes – which includes gang takedowns, investments in our Digital Evidence Lab, precision prosecutions, and community-based initiatives – is working,” Gonzalez said.
