Bus Driver Arrested After Fatal NYC Hit-And-Run Crash That Killed Girl

The 11-year-old was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

BROOKLYN, NY — A school bus driver who struck and killed an 11-year-old girl in a hit-and-run crash in Brooklyn on Thursday has been arrested, police said on Friday.

Wawa Aurelus, 62, was taken into custody after the fatal incident on Thursday. He has been charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.

According to police, Aurelus is accused of striking the 11-year-old girl as she attempted to cross the street at 23rd Avenue and Bath Avenue in Bath Beach. The 62-year-old did not stop after the crash

The girl has been identified as Amira Aminova, according to police.

Defense attorney information for Aurelus was not readily available. He is expected to appear in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Friday.
