🌱 Gruesome Discovery + Survivors Law + Voting Season
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Brooklyn.

Morning, everybody! It's me, Carlie Houser, your host of the Brooklyn Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about today, including:
Multiple suitcases were found in a Brooklyn apartment filled with body parts, according to sources. Yesterday afternoon, after reports of a foul odor in a sixth-floor home, police made a gruesome discovery of blood and human remains strewn around the apartment. Another tenant, a woman in her 20s, was unaccounted for. A medical examiner has begun their investigation, with updates to come, and a person of interest has been brought into questioning. (New York Post)
Moreover:
- Allegations against Donald Trump continue.
- Brooklyn Democrat announces reelection bid.
- Some mob drama.
- Voter drive in Brooklyn.
- Grilled cheese n' jokes.
But first, today's weather:
⛈ Rain and a t-storm; breezy. High: 74 Low: 52.
Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
1. Donald Trump rape accuser leverages NYC 'survivors' law in their indictment plan. The former U.S. president's legal team has been in Downtown Brooklyn this week for a financial special master trial over seized documents from his Mar-a-Lago home. Now, a NYC writer is building a case against Trump, accusing him of rape, defamation, and emotional distress. The accuser would have ordinarily missed legal deadlines to sue Trump, due to the fact that his actions in question occurred a long time ago. However, last spring, New York lawmakers passed the Adult Survivor's Act, which provides a one-year "look-back" enabling adult survivors of sexual attacks to bring civil claims that would have others been barred. The prosecution is taking advantage of this survivor's law in planning its case against Trump.
2. "Brooklyn Democratic Party boss Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn announces reelection bid after year of internal controversies." Whether or not Hermelyn would seek another term was under speculation, a decision that ultimately came as a surprise. A Democratic state assembly member representing Brooklyn's 42nd District, Hermelyn is the first female Black leader of the Brooklyn Democratic Party and is backed by Mayor Eric Adams. After having been elected chairwoman in 2020, she hopes to continue to enact historical change from her leadership position in the largest county party in the United States. At this time, it is unclear if anyone will challenge Hermelyn in her reelection, a bid she formerly announced in a Zoom forum on Tuesday night.
3. New FBI documents shed some light on the goings on of an American mobster. Gambino boss Frank "Franky Boy" Cali was killed in 2019 in a mob-related incident. New FBI evidence, heavily redacted until recently, offer to date perhaps the most revealing look into Cali's rise to power and his actions as mafia kingpin. Cali was popularly called a "ghost" due to the lack of incriminating information formerly known and available against him. Now, according to the files, there is information about Cali's participation in a phone card fraud scheme for the Gambino mob family.
4. It's that time of the year again, Brooklyn: the primary elections. Nov. 8 is fast-approaching, and this year the NAACP and City Harvest are working together to make a more lasting impact against food insecurity. Every first Saturday and third Wednesday of the month, the food rescue organization City Harvest hosts a Mobile Market at the Tompkins Houses in Bed Stuy. Yesterday the took things a step further with a partnership with NAACP to hold a voter registration drive. Recognizing the power of civic engagement when it comes to impacting long-term change, City Harvest and the NAACP are hoping to empower local voters to take a stand this voting season.
