Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:

1. Brooklyn boy Patrick Alford was just 7 years old when he vanished in 2010. Under state law, Patrick, who disappeared 13 years ago Sunday from his Spring Creek Towers foster home in East New York, is presumed dead. However, police have not ruled out the possibility that he is alive. On Saturday, NYPD investigators released a set of new age progression images meant to approximate what the now-20-year-old Patrick might look like in hope that someone might recognize him. A $13,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information about his disappearance. Find image and more information at the link below.

2. A new pedestrian plaza is now open in Prospect Heights. On Saturday, Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez and other city officials took part in a ribbon-cutting for the new Underhill Plaza in Prospect Heights. Underhill is part of the city's Open Streets program and the first part of a project to transform all of Underhill Avenue into a "bike boulevard." According to research backing NYC's Open Streets program, traffic-related injuries have reportedly decreased in areas that now have open streets just for pedestrians. "They're a way to bring permanent changes to our neighborhood that help create public space and make the traffic calming and safety features permanent parts of life in this neighborhood," one official said.

3. Did you catch the dolphins swimming in The Bronx River this past week? A decades-long effort by NYC Parks to restore the river as a healthy habitat might finally be paying off. On Monday, a biker spotted a pair of dorsal fins swimming offshore and quickly to to social media to share the rare siting. NYC Parks was quick to confirm the river's visiting dolphins and also made a Twitter announcement. Two days later, there was another sighting of two dolphins in Brooklyn, although no one is certain if they were the same pair. According to wildlife experts, dolphins occasionally make an appearance to feed on Atlantic bunker fish in New York City's waterways; however, they've been more often seen in the New York Harbor, where the Hudson River meets the salt water from the Atlantic off the lower tip of Manhattan. Sightings in the Bronx River and off Brooklyn shores are decidedly much less common.
