Jared Rios of Brooklyn Wins $5,000 Scholarship From MCU

Jared Rios of Flatlands has been named the recipient of the 2018 James McKeon Memorial Scholarship awarded by Municipal Credit Union (MCU). Jared, who graduates from St. Edmund Preparatory High School next month and plans to use his scholarship to attend Princeton University to study political science, received his scholarship from MCU Board Chair James Durrah and MCU Acting President/CEO Norman Kohn at a special ceremony at MCU's headquarters on May 23.

Jared is one of nine recipients of MCU's 2018 memorial scholarships. This year, MCU awarded $71,000 in scholarships to college-bound graduating high school seniors: nine memorial scholarships of $5,000 each and 13 grants of $2,000 each.

Eligibility for the MCU scholarships was open to an MCU member, a child, or a grandchild of a member in good standing. Selection was based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, demonstrated community service, letters of recommendation, and an essay expressing personal goals. The scholarships are part of MCU’s long-standing, larger corporate commitment to youth education across the greater New York City area.
