Downtown Brooklyn Partnership recognized for its 'Public Realm Action Plan' (brooklyneagle.com) — Downtown Brooklyn's own development partnership just earned an international award for its ambitious Public Realm Action Plan, which is reshaping local streets and public spaces. From Fulton Mall upgrades to Abolitionist Place green space and shared streets, the plan focuses on safer, greener, more pedestrian‑friendly corridors right in your neighborhood.
   

3. Flatbush Nonprofit Empowers Youth To Think Green (bkreader.com) — A Flatbush-based nonprofit, Brooklyn Level Up (BKLVLUP), is helping local youth tackle lead-contaminated soil and climate resilience across Flatbush, East Flatbush, and the Flatlands. Interns have tested more than 250 homes, promoted raised-bed gardening, and are planning a Community Resilience Hub near Utica and Farragut. The group also mentors teens on creative projects that address pollution and sustainability citywide.
   

4. Suspect arrested in deadly stabbing of 30-year-old mother at Brooklyn barbecue (abc7ny.com) — Police have arrested 25-year-old Deandre Creary in connection with the fatal stabbing of 30-year-old mother Shakeema Davis at her August 18 barbecue in Lincoln Terrace Park in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Investigators say an argument escalated after she rejected his advances, ending in multiple stab wounds as her 7-year-old son was present. Authorities indicate more details may emerge as the case develops.
   

5. John Dewey Annex adds 553 seats for Gravesend middle schoolers • Brooklyn Paper (brooklynpaper.com) — A brand-new John Dewey Annex in Gravesend has opened, adding 553 middle school seats for Brooklyn students and creating a direct pathway to John Dewey High School. The $77.7 million, fully union-built facility brings modern classrooms, labs, arts spaces, a gymatorium, and a playground, helping the city meet class size rules while expanding options in southern Brooklyn.
