Police Officers Shot 4 People In Brownsville Train Station
The incident started as a fare evasion pursuit, police officials said.

BROOKLYN, NY — Police shot several rounds at a man they were pursuing for fare evasion at a Brownsville subway station on Sunday, injuring him and three others, New York City Police Department officials said during an emergency press briefing Sunday night. One of the people shot was a police officer.
The two other civilians shot include a 49-year-old man, who is in critical condition as of Sunday evening, and a 26-year-old woman, who is reported to be in stable condition.
Police officials said the incident, which took place at the Sutter Avenue L train station around 3 p.m., started when a 37-year-old man walked through the gate without paying the fare. The two police officers on site followed the man up three flights of stairs, asking him to stop, officials said.

The man, who was later identified by police as Derell Mickles, refused to stop and said, "I'm going to kill you if you don't stop following me," according to NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey.
Then, a train arrived at the station, and the man got on the train, and the two police officers asked him to get off the train, take his hands out of his pockets and come with them, Maddrey said. Mickles refused and both officers attempted to deploy their tasers, which were "ineffective," Maddrey said.

Then man walked back onto the station platform and advanced toward them with a knife in hand, at which point, both officers shot at him, firing multiple rounds before handcuffing him and applying pressure to his wounds. As of Monday, he is in critical condition.
During this time, one police officer realizes that he's been shot as well, and they realize that two other people have also been hit by the gunfire, police officials said.
Several other officers arrived at the scene to help those who had been shot, and everyone injured was taken to nearby hospitals.
