Teen ID’d After Fatal Brooklyn NYCHA Shooting; Arrest Made, Police Say

Another 16-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday, accused of shooting a teen at the public housing complex Monday evening.

BROOKLYN, NY — A teen was arrested Tuesday and charged with manslaughter in Monday night's fatal shooting of a 16-year-old at a Brooklyn NYCHA complex, police said.

The suspect, also a 16-year-old boy, faces charges of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and criminal possession of a weapon.

The charges stem from Monday night's shooting, when police found Kamardre Coleman with gunshot wounds to the chest inside the Sheepshead Houses at 2597 Ave. X around 5 p.m.

Emergency crews rushed him to South Brooklyn Health, where he later died, officials said.

Police have not released details on what led to the shooting. Investigators now believe it may have been an accidental discharge, according to reports.

Authorities noted that Coleman resided at the NYCHA complex but in a different building from the shooting scene.

According to the Daily News, Coleman played for the undefeated Sheepshead Bay Sharks football team, which won a city championship just months ago.

The outlet also reported about a dozen votive candles shaped like the number 5—his jersey number—placed outside the Sheepshead Bay Houses Tuesday.
