East New York Man Fatally Shot Outside Apartment

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — A 41-year-old East New York resident was fatally shot Friday in front of his apartment building, police said, located steps away from P.S. 13, an elementary school.

According to the NYPD, Charles Jones was found by police at about 10:30 a.m. outside 518 Pennsylvania Ave., where he lived.

Jones had been shot in the head and torso, police said, and was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he died.

No arrests had been made as of Friday afternoon, according to the NYPD, and an investigation into the killing was ongoing.

Citing police, The New York Post reported that a suspect dressed as a construction worker had fled west on Livonia Avenue.

This alleged crime took place in the NYPD's 75th Precinct.

According to official police statistics, through April 24, major crimes were collectively up about 1 percent in the 75th compared to the same period last year.

A total of 8 murders had been reported through April 24, compared with 9 during the same period in 2015.
