Brandy Odom's Mother Demands Justice For Slain Child At Vigil

"I don't know who in their right mind would want to do this to my child except Satan himself," her mother said.

CANARSIE, BROOKLYN — The mother of Brandy Odom, a 26-year-old woman found dismembered in Canarsie Park, is furious that her daughter's killer has not been caught and that police have disclosed more to the media than they have to her.

“They keep finding these bits and pieces but no one is talking to me,” said Nicole Odom at a candlelight vigil for her daughter, whose torso was discovered in the park near Seaview Avenue Monday evening.

"The cops is saying nothing to me right now. I keep seeing bits and pieces on the news but nobody has gotten in contact with me."

A hoard of people gathered near the spot where Odom's naked body and limbs were discovered to pray, release a stream of white balloons into the sky, light candles, and plead with any witnesses to step forward.

"A person not only dismembered the body of a young lady but he also tore apart the anatomy of this community," said Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, who offered a $1,000 reward to anyone who helped identify the killer. "We want this crime solved because as long as this person is still on the street our daughters are still in jeopardy."

Police are currently offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to Odom's killer, and community advocate Tony Herbert, New York State Senator Rosanne Persaud and Councilman Allan Maisel all appeared at the vigil to ask residents to rack their memories and scan their videos of the day she died.

"We're not looking for a person, no human being will do this," said Persaud. "As you were walking in this park you may have recorded something — check it out. If you see some shadow you don't recognize, just turn it over."

Herbert also highlighted the need for security lights in Canarsie Park, which quickly became dark as the mourners marched toward the spot to where Odom's body was discovered.

Odom's mother wept as Bishop Gerald Seabrooks, from the Brooklyn Clergy Task Force, led a prayer for her daughter, but her eyes were dry when she addressed the public, through various news outlets who arrived to report on the vigil, to help her find justice.

"It could happen to somebody else's kid, somebody else's mother, somebody else's sister, somebody else's cousin and I don't want that," she said. "I want the person who did this caught."
