DNA Ties BK Man To 1992 Murder Of Woman Found Naked On Roof: DA
Investigators found last year that DNA swabs taken at the time of the Brownsville murder had never been tested.

BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN β A Brownsville man was indicted this week after DNA tied him to the murder of a woman found naked and shot in the head on a roof in 1992, prosecutors said Friday.
Calvin Grant, 56, was charged with murdering Stacey Lynette Joyner in Brooklyn Criminal Court Friday and could face up to 25 years in prison, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's office.
The investigation was reopened in 2017 when investigators discovered DNA swabs taken from the 21-year-old woman's mouth during the autopsy hadn't been tested.

Semen found in the oral swabs was matched to Grant, whose DNA was in the system from an 2000 robbery conviction, according to prosecutors.
Investigators soon discovered Grant had been seen on the Lott Avenue roof where security guards found a naked Joyner, who had been shot twice in the head, in April of 1992, prosecutors said.

Grant, who lived in the building next door at the time, fought with another person on the rooftop hours before the murder, prosecutors said. That person later told police Grant had a gun.
Grant was ordered to be held without bail and will return to court on April 5, court records show.
"My Cold Case Unit works tirelessly to ensure that justice is obtained for all murder victims in Brooklyn, no matter how long it takes," Brooklyn District Attorney Gonzalez said.
"A review of the evidence in this cold case and new DNA testing have allowed us to charge this defendant with a heinous crime and we will now seek to hold him accountable."
