East New York Woman's Death Ruled Homicide Months Later: Cops

Loretta Witherspoon's death in her East New York home was ruled a homicide three months after her death, police said.

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN -- Police have determined an East New York woman was murdered months after she was found dead in her home.

The death of Loretta Witherspoon was ruled a homicide Thursday, three months the 40-year-old woman was found unconscious inside her Linden Houses home at 240 Wortman Ave., police said.

Emergency responders, who rushed to the apartment after receiving a 911 call, found Witherspoon in her living room at about 6:20 p.m. on Oct. 3 and pronounced her dead at the scene, police said.

Police did not have more information about why it took three months for Witherspoon's death to be ruled a homicide.

The Medical Examiner's office did not immediately respond to Patch's request for more information about the cause of her death.

No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.
