The concert opens with Franco-Brazilian composer Elodie Bouny’s striking homage to the Amazon rainforest and the destruction it has faced in the form of Ignis—meaning “fire.” The piece serves as a contemporary complement to Mendelssohn’s exquisite and romantic Violin Concerto, which features a turning-point cadenza as a center jewel. Award-winning soloist Amaryn Olmeda brings Mendelssohn’s virtuosic and vivacious melodies to the stage. Countering the sparkling energy of the concerto, but no less joyful, Dvořák’s pastoral Symphony No. 8 vividly depicts Czech songs and dances through rich, pleasing melodies and harmonies. The symphony reflects the composer’s musings on the implications of nature, as well as his own experience enjoying its benefits.

Buffalo Arts Studio

Buffalo Arts Studio invites you to the Post Event Celebration for Live on Five on Friday, April 24, from 5–8 pm, part of M&amp;T Fourth Fridays. This event is free and open to the public.
The party’s not over yet! Guests are invited to pick up their winnings from the Live on Five auction and enjoy a free performance by a quintet from the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. The BPO will begin their performance at 6:00 pm and play for approximately 30 minutes. The quintet includes Henry Ward on Oboe, Natalie Scanio on Flute, Will Amsel on Clarinet, Natalya Rose Vrbsky on Bassoon and Sophia Filippone on Horn.&nbsp;
Additionally, guests can meet with Five Points Framing, who will be offering custom framing on the spot. On display will be In Between Two Tall Mountains&nbsp;by Gab Hall and&nbsp;Breathing In and Out&nbsp;by Brianna Bernas, concurrent exhibitions by two senior fiber art majors from Buffalo State University that explore concepts of emotional resilience, adaptability, and making material the immaterial. Volunteers from Live on Five are encouraged to join us to celebrate all of their hard work to make this event successful, and will receive one free drink as a token of our appreciation.&nbsp;
