Help Us Fill the Street With Color
On Saturday, August 15, The Art Meetup is bringing neighbors, artists, families, and creative people together for a public community chalk mural at Dyckman Rest Stop in Washington Heights.
Saturday, August 15, 2026
10 AM to 2 PM
Dyckman Rest Stop, Washington Heights
Public and donation-based
Bronx residents and artists are especially invited to cross over, introduce themselves, and create with us. The mural is open to all ages, but we are also intentionally building more public spaces where adults can make art, meet new people, and feel part of a real creative community.
No art experience is needed. There is no class to follow and no pressure to make anything perfect.
Stop by, grab some chalk, choose a space, and add whatever feels like you. Draw a picture, leave a positive message, make a pattern, collaborate with someone new, or simply spend time watching the street change throughout the day.
You can stay for 15 minutes or spend the afternoon with us.
What You’ll Find
- A giant chalk mural created by the community
- Chalk available while supplies last
- Local artists, neighbors, families, and volunteers
- Space to draw, talk, connect, and create
- Opportunities to meet The Art Meetup team
- A welcoming experience for beginners and experienced artists
We Need Community Support to Make It Happen
NYC DOT Open Streets is partnering with us, but The Art Meetup is responsible for producing and paying for the mural.
That includes paying local artists and welcome assistants, buying chalk, providing water, creating signage, transporting supplies, and purchasing the cleaning and production materials needed to keep the space safe and organized.
A donation of $5 helps.
A donation of $10 helps us buy more chalk and supplies.
A donation of $25 helps us support the people working behind the scenes.
Larger contributions help us continue creating public art experiences and more paid opportunities for local artists.
There is no required donation to attend. Those who are able to give help keep the experience open for neighbors who may not be able to contribute.
