J And M Train Service Changes Planned For 5 Weekends This Fall

BROOKLYN, NY — The MTA will make service changes on the J and M subway lines for five weekends from October through November while crews replace switches south of Marcy Avenue.

The switches, which were last replaced in 1997, are used to move trains between local and express tracks.

On weekdays from Oct. 13 through Nov. 20, except Oct. 26–30, J trains will operate locally between Marcy Avenue and Myrtle Avenue-Broadway from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Weekend changes will take place during several weekends from Oct. 17 through Nov. 23. During affected periods, J trains will operate between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Myrtle Avenue-Broadway, while shuttle buses will replace service between Myrtle Avenue-Broadway and Essex Street.

M trains will also operate in two sections with trains every 20 minutes: between Middle Village-Metropolitan Avenue and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues, connecting with the L train, and between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues and Myrtle Avenue-Broadway, connecting with the J.

The MTA recommends that riders consider the A, C and L trains as alternatives for travel between Manhattan and Jamaica, with additional connections available on the 4, 5, 6 and E lines.
