L Train Bandit Slices Pants Of Sleeping Passengers, Steals Wallets And Phones, Police Say

Police are looking for a man who has stolen five wallets and two cellphones from L train passengers by slicing holes in their pockets.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — Police are searching for a thief who cuts cellphones and wallets out of the pockets of L train straphangers.

The suspect — who has stolen at least five wallets and two cellphones over the course of two months — uses a sharp object to slash open the pockets of Brooklyn L train passengers, police said.

The thief targets sleeping passengers who are riding between Bushwick and Brownsville from about midnight to 5 a.m., police said.

Seven cases were reported between Feb. 18 and April 2, said police, who released video surveillance footage of a suspect Wednesday.

Police describe the suspect as a six-foot-tall man in his thirties, last seen in a light blue shirt, a black Yankee’s hat, blue jeans and sneakers.
