Rally For Baby Ducks And Chicks Who Face Eviction In Bushwick
Bushwick City Farm has organized a protest barbecue Sunday to rally support and fight an impending eviction.
BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — The baby ducks and chicks facing eviction in Bushwick are not giving up without a fight.
City officials, Bushwick locals, ducklings and chicks will gather at the Bushwick City Farm at 354 Stockton St. on Sunday to protest the landlord’s plans to evict the farm owners and develop the land, according to Bushwick City Farm organizers.
“The landlord wants to develop? This lot is already developed,” organizers wrote. “It has been developed into a farm.”

Bushwick City Farm has been providing free fresh eggs and produce to the neighborhood since 2011, but earlier this month owners were suddenly told they had until Aug. 31 to dig up their roots and move out, organizers said.
The farm took the eviction notice as a call to arms to save the farm that is home of a flock of 40 fowl, 12 fruit trees, hundreds of plants, a store of organic soil and a swing-set.

Bushwick City Farm has since launched an online petition, started a letter-writing campaign and organized a protest barbecue for Sunday afternoon.
The Save The Farm Celebratory BBQ festivities will combine elements of a party — including a homemade piñata, food and drinks — with activism.
There will be speeches from Public Advocate Letitia James, State Senator Martin Dilan, and City Councilman Robert E. Cornegy, Jr., letter-writing, sign making, and a rally demonstration.
