Watch: Runaway Bus Slams Cars And Crashes Into Bushwick Church

The empty MTA bus slid backwards down Palmetto Street Wednesday morning and hit St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — An MTA bus careened out of control, sped backwards down a Bushwick street and smashed into a Lutheran church Wednesday morning, police said.

The bus rolled down Palmetto Street, hit several cars and crashed into St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at at 592 Knickerbocker St. around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, said police.

There were no passengers on the bus when it crashed — the driver had mistakenly put it in neutral before she disembarked, police said.

Video posted on Twitter shows the bus sliding backwards down Palmetto Street before it crashed into St. Paul’s metal fence and brick facade.

A man who was standing near one of the struck cars was transported to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center for minor injuries, police said.
