The land will stay privately owned and is expected to become a commercial horse boarding operation, keeping it in active agricultural use and helping preserve Calverton’s rural character and economy.
   

• Suffolk, Riverhead officials send letter telling Navy to clean up Grumman plume (timesreview.com) — Local officials are pressing the U.S. Navy to fully clean up groundwater contamination from the former Grumman site in Calverton, citing new county testing that found high PFAS levels in nearby waters. They warn the plume threatens drinking water, the Peconic River and local fishing spots, and say legal action is possible if a stronger cleanup plan doesn’t emerge.
