Cop Snapped During Nap on F Train

An area resident snapped pics of the officer, with gun in his holster, as he slept in a subway car as it rode between the Carroll St. and Bergen St. stations

An off-duty, uniformed NYPD officer was caught snoozing on the F train by a local resident who snapped the shot with his cell phone as the subway rolled through the tunnels beneath Carroll Gardens.

"I was dumbfounded and staring," Martin Bisi, who spotted the cop after he got on the subway at the Carroll St. station on Feb. 16, told Patch. "I couldn't believe I was seeing a cop actually asleep."

Bisi, who first sent the pictures to Gothamist, said he immediately noticed the holstered gun when he stepped into the subway car.

"The gun was very prominently visible," said the 51-year-old music producer who lives in the Gowanus area and was on his way into Manhattan. "My visceral reaction was I was seeing a gun unattended."

Bisi, who said he has worked with bands like Sonic Youth and The Swans—and even recorded the Herbie Hancock hit "Rockit"—whipped out his cell phone and snapped a couple pics as the subway headed towards the Bergen St. station.

He noted that officer seemed to be going in and out of sleep during the ride.

When Bisi arrived at his stop at 34th St., he said he got off the train and flagged down a police lieutenant to show him the pics and explain what he saw.

An NYPD spokesman said the officer "was disciplined for being in uniform and not alert."
