Ellen Ullman is the author of a novel, The Bug, a New York Times Notable Book and runner-up for the PEN/Hemingway Foundation Award, and the cult classic memoir Close to the Machine, based on her experience as a rare female programmer in the early years of the personal computer era. Picador will reissue both books in March 2012, with new introductions by Mary Gaitskill and Jaron Lanier, respectively.
