84-Year-Old Man Killed In Eastport Crash
The fatal crash occurred in front of the Eastport Post Office Thursday evening, police say.

EASTPORT, NY – An 84-year-old man was killed in a two-car crash in Eastport Thursday evening, Suffolk Police said.
According to police, Gerald Bennett was driving a 2009 Honda CRV and exiting a shopping center parking lot at 25 Eastport-Manor Road when his vehicle collided with a 2008 Ford F350 that was traveling north on Eastport-Manor Road at about 5:10 p.m.
Bennett, of East Moriches, was transported by East Moriches Community Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Ford, 19-year-old Dawson Everhart, of Westhampton, remained at the scene and was not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check. No criminal charges have been filed. The investigating is continuing and police are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
