Center Moriches Man Caught Driving Drunk In Southampton: Cops

He had a BAC content of .17%, although he told officers he'd had one beer to drink, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Center Moriches man was cuffed after he was caught driving drunk in Southampton, police said.

According to New York State Police, 34-year old Jose Martinez was arrested on Sunday at 4:10 a.m. after he was stopped while heading west on Montauk Highway, west of Squiretown Road, for a vehicle and traffic infraction.

While Martinez was being interviewed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage was emanating from the vehicle and he told the officer that he'd had approximately one beer earlier in the night, police said.

Martinez's performance on standardized field sobriety tests was indicative of being intoxicated by alcohol, police said.

He was placed under arrest and was transported back to New York State Police Barracks Riverside, where he gave a breath sample of .17% blood alcohol content, police said.

Martinez was arrested, charged with driving while intoxicated, processed and transported to Southampton Town's lockup to be arraigned in the morning, police said.
