Drunk Driver Crashes Into Tree, Flees Scene: Police

A female passenger was injured when the drunk driver crashed into the tree, police say.

MORICHES, NY — A drunk driver was arrested after he crashed into a tree and fled from the scene, police said.

Suffolk County Police 7th Precinct officers arrested John Alberts, 46, of Center Moriches and charged him with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries after he crashed his truck into a tree at approximately 7:10 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Alberts was driving a 2008 Ford pickup truck southbound on Moriches Middle Island Road in Moriches when he lost control of the vehicle and it struck a tree; a female passenger in the vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, police said.

Alberts fled the scene and was located and arrested a short time later by K-9 section officers and patrol officers, police said.
