Folkie Fest

Original music is alive and well at the Moriches Community center where Folkie Fest offers an ongoing concert series with local acoustic artists in the spirit of folk music as envisioned by the late Pete Seeger. We provide a home for original acoustic music, supporting live, local, singer/songwriters. There is comfortable seating and a welcoming environment which creates an intimate listening space. Attentive audiences draw the performers to this venue, the artists appreciate the opportunity to share their original works in this type of setting.

An extraordinarily gifted group of singer/songwriters come to share their music, established and emerging artists are welcomed. They perform the songs that come from their experiences in life and love. This is not your parent’s folk! Music moves your soul… brings the emotions of life to the surface in ways that can change how you perceive the world around you or reassure your sense of being.

Each event is organized around a central idea, ranging from celebrating the blues, women in song, iconic folk songs, earth day, the music from 12-string guitars, and many other themes. Five to six artists bring their talent to each show with a set of their original works. The varied styles and genres provide a wide range, something for everyone.

A portion of the proceeds are donated to the community center to fund their programs. In keeping with the spirit of Pete Seeger, a 50/50 raffle is be held to benefit Long Island Cares: The Harry Chapin Food Bank.
