ICYMI: Central Park Lays Off Staff To Cut Operations Costs
The nonprofit which runs the park, the Central Park Conservancy, has downsized its staff by 8 percent, the Daily News reported.
CENTRAL PARK, NY — The Central Park Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that maintains and operates Central Park, laid off staffers at various levels and roles this month, according to a report.
Eight percent of the organization's workforce was fired on May 18, the Daily News reported. The layoffs hit staffers in planning and executive roles and employees who interact with the public, according to the report. The cuts were made in order to trim the Conservancy's operations costs by about 7 percent, according to the report.

A spokesman for the Central Park Conservancy did not immediately respond to Patch's message.

The laid off staff members were all offered severance packages, the Daily News reported. Before the cuts the Central Park Conservancy employed around 375 people.
“We believe these changes will position the Conservancy to continue improving our effectiveness as stewards of the Park while serving its over 42 million annual visitors,” Douglas Blonsky, president of the Conservancy, told the Daily News in a statement.
