Pokémon Go Player Records His Own Robbery in Central Park

A man was mugged early Monday morning while live-streaming himself playing Pokémon Go in Central Park.

CENTRAL PARK, NY — A man live-streaming himself playing Pokémon Go in Central Park caught his own robbery on video.

The man, 43, entered the park Sunday night at Sixth Avenue and 59th Street while holding his cellphone out, police told Patch. Around 12:19 a.m. he was approached from behind by a man and struck in the head, police said. The mugger stole three cellphones from the man before fleeing northbound into the park, police said.

The victim suffered a laceration to his head and refused medical attention at the scene, police said. At the time of the attack the victim was playing Pokémon Go and streaming the action live on a website called Twitch.

The entire attack was caught on video and uploaded to YouTube. As of this writing the video has been viewed more than 59,000 times.

The victim confirmed the video was real on Twitter.

The suspect has not been arrested, police told Patch. Police describe the suspect as a black man about 6-feet-tall who was wearing a black T-shirt and red shorts at the time of the robbery.
