Snowball Fight Will Raise Money For Homeless Day After Blizzard

The snowball fight will be held in Central Park on Wednesday evening.

CENTRAL PARK, NY — A group of friends is organizing a massive snowball fight to collect clothing donations and raise money for homeless New Yorkers. The snowball fight will take place in Central Park on Wednesday night, the day after a blizzard is expected to dump up to two feet of snow on the city, according to a GoFundMe campaign.

Those interested in attending the throwdown are encouraged to bring spare winter clothes, as donation boxes will be set up near the Sheep Meadow battleground, according to the campaign. People can also make monetary gifts on the GoFundMe page.

"We are a group of friends who care deeply about the homeless population of New York City and also happen to love a good snowball fight. This Wednesday we'll combine both of these passions by having a GIANT snowball fight in Central Park to benefit New Yorkers facing homelessness," an organizer wrote on the GoFundMe page.

The donations will be gifted to the Bowery Mission, an organization dedicated to aiding homeless and hungry New Yorkers since 1879. The snowball fight organizers have lofty expectations for their event and hope to break a Guinness World Record of 7,681 participants at a snowball fight in Saskatoon, Canada.

A message left for event organizers was not immediately returned.
