Warren Haynes Will Play Jerry Garcia's 'Tiger' During Tribute Concert

The Allman Brothers Band and Gov't Mule guitarist will play one of Garcia's former guitars during a SummerStage benefit concert.

CENTRAL PARK, NY — One of Jerry Garcia's famed guitars will be live in action during a SummerStage event on August 8. Warren Haynes, who toured with the Allman Brothers Band and co-founded Gov't Mule, will play Garcia's "Tiger" during the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration, according to a news release.

Haynes will be joined by fellow jammers Marco Benevento and Eric Krasno. Haynes played "Tiger" this year at a concert celebrating Garcia's birthday at Red Rocks. The guitar was last used by Garcia on July 9th, 1995, according to the release. The guitar's "steward" is Jim Irsay the billionaire owner of the Indianapolis Colts.

Tickets for the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration run $47.50. The concert is a benefit for SummerStage, which means ticket proceeds go toward the organization's ability to host free events in parks throughout the five boroughs.

“I’m very excited about doing these shows. We’ve chosen a very diverse list of songs from the extensive Jerry Garcia related catalog and in the true spirit of the original music we’ll be leaving room for improvisation and approaching the symphonic arrangements from a non-traditional direction. We are also going to vary the setlists to some extent for fans that want to attend multiple shows,” Haynes said according to the concert's event page.
