2 Hudson Valley Giants On New List of Best Companies for New Dads
The 50 Best Places to Work for New Dads in 2018 comes from digital lifestyle guide Fatherly.

A lifestyle guide for young parents released its third annual report Fathers Day on the "50 Best Places to Work for New Dads." It's not surprising that New York is home to many of the companies that Fatherly highlights, and the Hudson Valley gets a piece of the action as IBM and Mastercard have made the annual list.
Looking for the best paternity benefits offered by leading companies in the United States, Fatherly’s researchers focused on six specific policy areas that, viewed in aggregate, expose the degree to which each company has prioritized providing aid to new fathers: paid leave, flexible time policies, child care benefits and offerings, dependent care, employee assistance programs, and parental support programs.

Companies that reported policies differentiating between primary and secondary caregivers were ranked by secondary offerings. Rankings also factor in — to the degree possible — whether or not corporate culture encourages employees to take advantage of benefits.

Mastercard is ranked No. 24 on the list. Here's what Fatherly singled out about the Purchase-based corporation's notable father-friendly policies and practices:
The multinational financial services corporation supports employee families of all types, assisting with adoptions, extending health and dental benefits to same-sex domestic partners, subsidizing child care costs, and offering gender confirmation surgery for employees on US medical plans.
- Access to a confidential, no-cost medical decision service
- Referral services for child/pet/home care
IBM ranked No. 40. Here's some of what Fatherly has to say:

IBM used to have a reputation for employee retention. Today, fewer workers stick around for 45 years, but many do stay to take advantage of the competitive parent leave on offer.
- Paid parental leave can be taken intermittently, giving fathers the flexibility as to when they stay at home.
