4 Horace Greeley Seniors Win National Merit $2500 Scholarships
They are finalists in the annual competition.
Four Horace Greeley High School seniors have been named National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners: Frank Lin, Michael Doppelt, Divya Gopinath and Elizabeth Hart
They are the Finalists in the annual program judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.

MICHAEL DOPPELT, a 2015 Semifinalist in the Intel STS, has been most involved in Greeley’s running program, having participated in cross country track, and captaining the winter and spring track teams for 3 seasons. He also is a 3-year member of the Science Olympiad Club, serving as co-president this year. Outside of school, Michael tutors regularly, both locally and in the Bronx as a volunteer. He plans to attend Yale University.

DIVYA GOPINATH is the other co-president of the Science Olympiad Club, an Editor-in-Chief of The Greeley Tribune, and an executive of Greeley’s Model United Nations Club. Outside of school, she is heavily involved in music as she learns piano and singing. She also loves to teach and has been a part of a local tutoring company for the past two years. A self-proclaimed “avid science nerd,” Divya has spent her past two summers conducting research on the neurobiology of drug addiction and depression. Next year, she plans to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to branch of engineering.
ELIZABETH HART is passionate about science and loves to read. She has been an Editor-in-Chief of The Quake (Greeley’s varsity sports magazine,) served as a Youth Corps Captain of the Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and was a captain of Greeley’s Debate Club. She was enrolled in Greeley’s science research program and continues to volunteer in an epilepsy research lab. She will attend Dartmouth College in the fall, where she hopes to study neuroscience or another scientific pursuit.
