Are You Ready to Battle?

As a Relationship Warrior, you might think that I am always ready to battle. Well, that is not really the case. Sometimes, I avoid or postpone conflict because I just cannot seem to get myself motivated. Isn’t that strange?

Honestly, I did not actively realize that I do this type of thing until I was telling a good friend about a problem I was having with a vendor. I had mastered the art of letting the vendor’s schedule and needs supplant my own needs. Then, one day, I said “Enough!” and started actively looking for alternative solutions.

As I was relating the story, my friend said to me “You just were not ready to battle.” This phrase has been banging around in my head since the conversation. What does it really mean? What can I learn from the story?

No, my takeaway from this little story is not to change my mindset to always battle – that would be exhausting and, in some ways, counter-productive. Instead, I want to step back a bit and watch myself in these situations. In this case, if I had been doing so, I might have realized that I need to stand up for myself several weeks earlier. Instead of being frustrated and desperate, I might have gotten into “battle mode” a bit sooner and moved on. Looking back at this scenario, it would have saved me a lot of aggravation, which would have been nice. Or better than nice…

Did this story prompt a thought or remind you of a story? If it did, I would love to hear it.
