Body Of Hudson Valley Banker Found in Virginia Wilderness

The Chappaqua resident was missing since July 2, after going for a jog in treacherous terrain in the Blue Ridge Mountains while on vacation.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The body of a Hudson Valley man who went missing on July 2, in the Blue Ridge Mountains has been recovered, according to Patrick County Sheriff officials.

A massive search and rescue operation started when Chappaqua resident Bruce Rubin, who was a guest of the Primland Resort, failed to return from a jog near the property. Officials said the rugged terrain in the area coupled with extremely wet weather complicated the rescue efforts which were stretched into a second week.

On Monday, rescuers recovered the 61-year-old's body from the bottom of a steep gorge well away from any marked path. The recovery effort reportedly required crews to rappel to the remote area where the body was discovered.

In a statement, a sheriff's department spokesperson said that it was likely that Rubin fell and that there were no indications of foul play.

Rubin was described as an avid trail runner who was in training for an extreme marathon, when he died in what appears to be an accident.

"We've interviewed tons of folks and there are a lot of folks that know him and they all said that he was in extremely good shape, good physical condition," Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith told The Roanoke Times. "He was an adventurist and he was training for a marathon and looking for elevation changes."
