The FDA recently announced their “National Education Campaign to Prevent Youth Tobacco Use” that will help bring to light the serious risks facing American children. The campaign’s goal is to reduce the number of kids who become regular smokers.
Despite the dangers, more than 3,200 children under the age of 18 smoke their first cigarette daily in the United States, according to the U.S. Drug and Food Administration. The FDA campaign spotlights “real cost” messages targeting 12- to 17-year-olds through print and broadcast ads that will highlight the cosmetic impacts of smoking, including teeth loss and skin damage.
As this campaign is being launched during Children’s Dental Health Month (February), in addition to providing patient education on the topic, Dr. Clemenza’s practice once again provided free fluoride treatments for children when they get their teeth cleaned.
