Chappaqua DAR Helps Clear Croton Reservoir of Plastic Debris

Members of the Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR joined NYC DEP for 2019 Reservoir Cleanup Day as part of the DAR "Sea to Shining Sea" Challenge

(Chappaqua, NY) Members of the Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR participated in NYC's Department of Environmental Protection 2019 Reservoir Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 15, 2019, at the Croton Reservoir. The event drew hundreds of volunteers to help remove litter and recyclables from public recreation areas at six water supply reservoirs and one streamside location in the Catskills and Hudson Valley.

Recognizing the great threat plastic pollution presents to our lakes, rivers and oceans, the Daughters of the American Revolution's Conservation Committee challenged chapters nationwide to organize and participate in a community cleanup of a lake, river, or ocean as part of the "Sea to Shining Sea" Challenge. The reservoir cleanup was Polly Cooper Chapter's second clearing of local waterways in 2019, having cleared the waterways of the Old Chappaqua Historic District earlier this year.

The National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Its members descend from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With more than 185,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world's largest and most active service organizations.
