Members of Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR celebrate DAR's Day of Service with Literacy Promotion

(Chappaqua, NY) Members of Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR volunteered at the 2019 Chappaqua Children's Book Festival on Saturday, October 5, 2019. The National DAR Day of Service celebrates the anniversary of the October 11, 1890 founding of the DAR with DAR members all over the world participating in special volunteer service projects in their communities. The Polly Cooper Chapter chose to contribute their time to this event to further their literacy promotion efforts, as well as to honor member Dawn Evans Greenburg, founder and executive director of the Chappaqua Children's Book Festival. Dawn recently received first place in DAR's National Literacy Promotion Committee's Outstanding Service Contest by a Member for her outstanding achievement in the promotion of literacy development in children.
The Chappaqua Children's Book Festival, one of the largest children's festivals in the Northeast, encourages young children to read and supports reading mentorship programs in Westchester County, New York. Proceeds from the all-volunteer festival benefit the JCY-Westchester Community Partners, Meet the Writers, and Projects Sunshine Book Club (PSBC), which bring books and authors into area schools and children's hospitals.
The National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism.
