Chappaqua Downtown Makeover: Project Manager Hired
It's a big streetscape and infrastructure project. Here's how to get informed.
CHAPPAQUA, NY — Chappaqua's huge downtown makeover project is closer to getting started. Actually, some of the work has already begun and more will follow soon, as all the parts fall into place.
The town has hired a project manager, Boswell Engineering. They will be leasing the former EZ Sports space to have a street presence. They will be the liaison between the town, public and general contractor, as well as overseer for quality control and contractual costs.
What Town Supervisor Rob Greenstein called "our voluminous and intricate plans" have gone out to bid.

"The construction drawings and details are over 200 pages in length and were sent to 727 vendors who could potentially bid to construct the project," he said. "This is a massive project which includes infrastructure such as sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water mains, as well as streetscape such as landscape, lighting, sidewalk, curbing and street characteristics. We expect to have bid responses within 4-5 weeks with construction starting in the spring."
As for roadwork, Con Ed is starting to replace gas mains as the town is in a back-and-forth with the state Transportation Department about the road improvements.

Town officials said they want to ensure that local merchants are informed of the details of the construction project and that their concerns are addressed.
"We’re also working on a pre-construction merchant outreach survey," Greenstein said. "Our merchants can expect monthly project update emails, and we will be establishing a project hotline and email. We will ensure that access is maintained to all storefronts. We also want to ensure that additional signage is provided to ensure visibility. We will also provide marketing support so that residents and visitors are encouraged to continue shopping during the construction period."
The town has also updated its website, to help keep residents informed and safe during construction. Find out more about the project and sign up for project updates.
