He returned stolen merchandise to get a store credit, police said.

CHAPPAQUA, NY — A Chappaqua man was arrested Thursday for having tried to steal goods from Mitchell's in Westport, Connecticut back in 2015, police said.
Richard Becker, 52, entered the store in January 2015, grabbed a sweater and bought it to a customer service desk to be returned, police said. He then picked out socks, underwear and four shirts worth $711 and was given a merchandise credit of $244.
Becker said he was Richard Becker from Darien, according to police.
