MOUNT KISCO, NY — Police say that a Westchester man clearly failed to learn his lesson after his arrest on burglary charges.

The Westchester County Police Department says that 22-year-old Candelario Cervantes-Seferino, of Mount Kisco, tried to break into a business in the village at 1 a.m. on Thursday, less than six hours after he was arraigned on a different burglary charge and released on his own recognizance.

Cervantes-Seferino was initially taken into custody at 4 p.m. on Wednesday after patrol officers saw him on Sarles Avenue. He was known by officers to have several outstanding warrants.

They detained him and confirmed that he had a total of eight active warrants for trespass/disorderly conduct; public urination; public consumption of alcoholic beverages; littering; and four additional trespass warrants

Police say these warrants were associated with failing to appear in court for summonses issued to him previously during quality-of-life enforcement by county officers in Mount Kisco.

During arrest processing on the outstanding warrants, WCPD detectives said they developed probable cause to charge Cervantes-Seferino with a burglary that took place on May 31, at a restaurant in Kirby Plaza. In that break-in, $500 in cash was stolen and there were $1,000 in damage to the front entrance.

Cervantes-Seferino was also charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, and petit larceny. He was arraigned on those charges and the outstanding warrants, and released on his own recognizance on Wednesday.

Around 1 p.m. on Thursday, WCPD officers were dispatched to North Moger Ave. after receiving a report of an attempted burglary that took place overnight. Video surveillance footage showed that a man had used a large stone to try to shatter a storefront door to enter the business at 1 a.m. Police say that the unsuccessful burglary attempt caused $5,000 in damage to the door frame and glass.

Detectives identified Cervantes-Seferino as a suspect in the new burglary attempt. Patrol officers began to canvass locations where they have had previous contacts with him, including in the area of Main Street and Lexington Avenue. Police say he was found sleeping behind a gas station on East Main St. and arrested at 2:44 p.m.

Cervantes-Seferino was charged with third-degree attempted burglary and second-degree criminal mischief in connection to the North Moger Ave. incident.

After being booked at the Green Street Precinct, Cervantes-Seferino was arraigned in village court. Bail was set at $3,500 and Cervantes-Seferino was sent to the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla.
